A few days ago, combat sports fans were sent into a frenzy over a social media post claiming the former UFC heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier would defeat the youngest heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson in a street fight. The post also included an alleged quote by ‘DC’ in which he picked himself over Tyson in a potential street fight. Nevertheless, the post led to a heated argument amongst the combat sports fans with even the likes of Gordon Ryan chiming in.
The debate became so interesting and heated that UFC lightweight fighter Chase Hooper has now jumped in to share his opinion. While Hooper agreed with the alleged quote, he also mentioned how Mike Tyson could have become the undisputed UFC GOAT if it were not for one specific thing holding him back.
Hooper picks Cormier over Tyson
Hooper took to his ‘X’ and reposted user @DovySimuMMA’s post where the latter claimed that DC would defeat “99.9% of the worlds population in a street fight.” ‘The Dream’ agreed with the analogy and claimed that everyone who thinks Mike Tyson has a chance against the former UFC dual champion is living in a delusion.
Here are the articles that inspired recent polls.
He’d be the undisputed GOAT if he hopped into UFC in the 90s or 2000’s. But the money wasn’t there at the time to be nearly convincing enough. Current divisions have a lot more well rounded fighters that I think would give him trouble in the other 2/3rds of the sport that isn’t…

Hooper accepted the fact that Tyson could actually fight the Lafayette native. However, it will take only one takedown from Cormier to finish the fight. The 25-year-old further mocked Tyson supporters claiming that these same oblivious fans thought that the latter would outbox Jake Paul at nearly 60 years of age.
He quoted the picture and stated, “The people that think that Mike would beat DC in a street fight are the same ones who thought he’d outbox Jake Paul at 58 years old. Now DC might lose an ear, but one takedown and it’s over,” predicting how a street fight between the legends would go differently than most think.
The post by Hooper started another discourse and fans started discussing the fantasy street fight. During the discourse, the lightweight martial artist accepted the fact that in his prime years in the 90s, Mike Tyson would have ruled over the UFC. However, he was stopped because of one limitation.

While discussing the street fight scenario, user ‘@ASPsports12’ claimed that proper training would have helped the Brooklyn native fare well in the UFC. Hooper once again accepted the analogy and wrote, “He’d be the undisputed GOAT if he hopped into UFC in the 90s or 2000’s.”
“But the money wasn’t there at the time to be nearly convincing enough,” contended the lightweight. In the 1990s, the UFC was in its early stages, and because of limited popularity, the revenue was not enough. On the other hand, Mike Tyson was selling out arenas with the likes of Don King and Donald Trump by his side. Hooper thinks that in such circumstances, the Brooklyn native would not have left boxing and tried his luck in the UFC.
Hooper further claimed that the roster back in the day was far less technical and Mike Tyson would have thrived there. However, “Current divisions have a lot more well rounded fighters that I think would give him trouble in the other 2/3rds of the sport that isn’t striking.”
Hooper accepts the fact that even most of the current roster is no match for Tyson’s striking ability. However, the game has evolved so much in the past few years that even the youngest heavyweight champion will give Mike Tyson trouble when it comes to grappling or wrestling.
This discourse has blown up much more than expected, as even the professional fighters are finding it quite interesting. At this point, we can’t know the answer to this question. However, we can always wonder, right? Let us know your pick between Daniel Cormier and Mike Tyson down below.
