“Packers Hit Hard: Jordan Love Thumb Surgery & Romeo Doubs Injury Raise Alarm Before Season Kickoff”

Romeo Doubs of the Green Bay Packers is examined after being injured in the third quarter against the San Francisco 49ers at Lambeau Field on November 24, 2024.

The Green Bay Packers have been ravaged by injury this week.

Just hours after general manager Brian Gutekunst announced that Jordan Love would undergo thumb surgery, an already barren wide receiver room saw several contributors suffer injuries.

The Athletic’s Matt Schneidman reported on August 12 that Romeo Doubs went down after a collision with Evan Williams.

“Small collision with Evan Williams on a deep incompletion and Doubs hit the ground,” Schneidman wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter). “Very, very slow to get up. Appears to be his lower back.”

Doubs left practice with an apparent back injury, making him the fourth wide receiver to be out at practice.

Christian Watson is currently on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list. Dontayvion Wicks is sidelined with a calf injury. Jayden Reed left Lambeau Field in a walking boot after the preseason opener on Saturday.

But two new developments followed Doubs.

Savion Williams, Luke Musgrave Join Romeo Doubs as Packers Injuries Pile Up

According to “Pack A Day” podcaster Andy Herman, rookie receiver Savion Williams was working off to the side at practice on Tuesday. Tight end Luke Musgrave and Lukas Van Ness also collided later in practice, which sidelined Musgrave, who met with a trainer after the play.

Now Musgrave and LVN collide and both go off to the side. Musgrave currently with a trainer. Just one of those days.

It’s concerning enough that Love will be on the mend for likely the rest of the preseason, but with the pass-catching corps banged up, the Packers are pressed for rest with just four days before a preseason matchup with the Indianapolis Colts.

The WR room is being brutalized right now.

Watson – PUP

Wicks & Reed already out.

Savion Williams looked to be off to the side with something earlier and has not returned.

Doubs just went out with what looked like a back injury.

Jordan Love to Undergo Thumb Surgery, Packers GM Says

Brian Gutekunst Jordan Love Week 1 Status Injury Update

On Tuesday, Gutekunst appeared before the media to announce Love will undergo a procedure on his left thumb for an injury he sustained in the preseason opener.

Love’s hand caught the side of a defensive tackle’s helmet on what proved to be Love’s final play of the game against the New York Jets. Fortunately, it was not Love’s throwing hand.

Although it is concerning for Love to be recovering from surgery a month before the start of the season, Gutekunst didn’t seem concerned about Love’s availability.

“He’s had a good camp so far. Obviously, I think as he gets back, we’ll kind of assess where he’s at,” Gutekunst said, per NFL.com. “It’s one of those things where I think he’ll be back at practice next week. How much he can do leading into that Seattle game, we’ll kind of see. He’ll be day-to-day a little bit.

“You never want any of these guys to be out because you want to be working as a team. They all need the work obviously. More importantly, he’ll be ready for Week 1, and that’s the most important thing.”

Malik Willis will lead the quarterback room for the time being, while Sean Clifford and Taylor Elgersma will fill in for backup reps.
