Tucker Kraft was clearly one of the best tight ends in football last year. Well, it's not as clear for everyone, it feels like. ESPN's Jeremy Fowler is putting together lists of the top 10 players per position talking with executives, coaches, and scouts. Not only did Kraft miss the top 10 list, he was not even an honorable mention—he received votes, but he was basically named the 19th best tight end in the NFL.
Looking at the names who were picked over Kraft, it's evident that the NFL is sleeping on the Packers' offensive rising star. In his second NFL season, the former third-round pick already showed proof of concept of what he can be.
Top 10
- Brock Bowers, Las Vegas Raiders
- George Kittle, San Francisco 49ers
- Sam LaPorta, Detroit Lions
- Trey McBride, Arizona Cardinals
- Travis Kelce, Kansas City Chiefs
- Mark Andrews, Baltimore Ravens
- TJ Hockenson, Minnesota Vikings
- Isaiah Likely, Baltimore Ravens
- Dallas Goedert, Philadelphia Eagles
- David Njoku, Cleveland Browns
Honorable mentions
- Dalton Kincaid, Buffalo Bills
- Pat Freiermuth, Pittsburgh Steelers
- Hunter Henry, New England Patriots
- Evan Engram, Denver Broncos
- Cole Kmet, Chicago Bears
- Jake Ferguson, Dallas Cowboys
- Jonnu Smith, Pittsburgh Steelers
There are some players on these two lists that simply weren't nearly as good as Kraft. That includes both Ravens' tight ends, Dalton Kincaid, Pat Freiermuth, Evan Engram, and Cole Kmet.
And it's not that Packers fans have followed Tucker Kraft closer. Digging into his numbers, Kraft truly had an amazing season. He was first by far in yards after the catch per reception (9.3) among tight ends, and fifth in passer rating when targeted (134.6), only behind Mark Andrews, George Kittle, Foster Moreau, and Isaiah Likely. In yards per route run, Kraft was 11th (1.61), more than Likely, Hockenson, Freiermuth, Kelce, Henry, and Njoku.
In 2025, Kraft will have to prove himself once again. And if he has a similar production, it will be hard to ignore him again a year from now.
"I really want to take that upon myself this year to lead with my playstyle like I may have done last year, but also with more words, not just headbutts," Kraft said during the offseason. "Going into our two-tight end packages with Luke [Musgrave] this year, we're gonna have to find ways to spread that wealth around because the tight end room, we're gonna be relied on heavily this year."
This is Kraft's third season in the NFL, which means he will be eligible to receive a contract extension next offseason. Being amongst the best at his position will certainly help his case and make his agent's life easier.
