Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox named Green Bay Packers wide receiver Romeo Doubs a trade candidate.
The Green Bay Packers have invested a lot of draft capital at wide receiver in recent years. In 2025, the franchise finally ended their 22-year streak of not selecting a wideout in the first round of the NFL Draft.
With a lot of talent at the position, a receiver such as Romeo Doubs could be the odd-man out.
Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox named Doubs the one player the Packers “should put on the 2025 trade block” this preseason.
“The Green Bay Packers face a potential logjam at wide receiver, even with Christian Watson still recovering from a torn ACL that he suffered in January,” wrote Knox.
“After signing Mecole Hardman and using first- and third-round picks on Matthew Golden and Savion Williams, respectively, the Packers have a surplus of young receivers competing for a handful of spots.
“Green Bay’s initial 2024 roster included six wide receivers. If the Packers again keep six receivers, it likely leaves Hardman, Jayden Reed, Dontayvion Wicks, Romeo Doubs, Malik Heath, undrafted rookie Will Sheppard and others competing for four spots.
“It would behoove the Packers to trade one of their young receivers before roster cuts, and Doubs is a logical candidate. The 25-year-old has been a productive, if inconsistent, contributor (1,700 yards, 15 TDs in 43 games) who will also be a free agent in 2026.”
Knox added that of all Green Bay’s top receivers, Doubs is the least likely to be part of the roster in 2026. The Packers would also save $3.4 million against the salary cap with a Doubs trade this preseason.
Why WR Romeo Doubs Could be a Packers Trade Candidate
Doubs is one of the more experienced Packers receivers. But what that means is he’s entering the final year of his rookie contract.
The same is the case with Christian Watson. But neither is guaranteed to be re-signed because since 2023, the Packers have drafted Jayden Reed, Dontayvion Wicks, Matthew Golden and Savion Williams.
As Knox explained, Green Bay also signed Mecole Hardman this offseason.
Losing Doubs might not be ideal for the 2025 season. But if Watson returns from his ACL injury during the first half of the season, then the Packers will already have six wideouts not counting Doubs.
Green Bay also has receivers Malik Heath, Cornelius Johnson, Julian Hicks, Isaiah Neyor and Will Sheppard on the offseason roster. Neyor and Sheppard are both undrafted free agents.
If one of those receivers standout, then Doubs could be expendable.
Packers WR Room Entering 2025 NFL Season
Doubs has been a reliable wideout over the past three years for the Packers. So, it’s unlikely an unknown commodity, especially an undrafted rookie, can replace Doubs’ production.
From 2022-24, Doubs has posted 58 catches and 672 receiving yards as a 17-game average. Last season, he registered 46 receptions for 601 yards.
The Packers could overcome losing Doubs, though, with more production from Reed, who led the team in receiving last season, and others. Wicks and the rookies appear capable for a lot more than 415 receiving yards, which is what Wicks had last year.
While a different style of wideout, Hardman could be capable of replacing Doubs’ production on his own. In his best season, Hardman had 59 catches and 693 receiving yards during 2021 with the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Packers don’t necessarily need the addition cap space trading Doubs would provide. But if moving on from Doubs is best for Green Bay’s initial 2025 roster, then the Packers should welcome the additional cap room.
