Seeking redemption for the humiliation they faced in the FIBA World Cup last year, Team USA is sending a star-studded team to the Paris Olympics hoping to bring home some gold. Among those stars is also four-time Champion Stephen Curry, who has never represented his nation in the Olympics despite being a legend in the game. And it looks like Steph’s first Olympics is going to be a memorable one as his God sister and WNBA star Cameron Brink is also going to accompany him to Paris, leaving the Warriors star ecstatic.
With her latest post on Instagram, Brink shared several pictures of her receiving the Team USA jersey making it known to the world that she will be heading to Paris. And Steph couldn’t contain his excitement as he shared the post on his Instagram story writing, “Same Team!!!”
While the duo is not biologically related, they have been tied together forever because of their parents’ friendship. Attending college at Virginia Tech, all four of Steph and Cameron’s parents are very close friends. Their fathers Dell Curry and Greg Brink were teammates on the Men’s basketball team and their mothers Sonya Curry and Michelle Bain-Brink shared the same room. So, it was natural that the two couples made each other God parents to their children, eventually making Steph and Cameron God siblings. And like a true elder brother, Steph has helped Cameron every step of the way, even in improving her skills on the court. “She was trying to develop her jumper and I spent a little bit of time with her, gave her some pointers.” Steph revealed in an interview three years ago.
Even tennis prodigy Coco Gauff, who is currently competing in the French Open, was looking forward to meeting Brink in Paris. “See you there❤️❤️❤️.” Gauff wrote on Brink’s post. And this wholesome gesture comes days after Brink took the internet by storm by modelling her outfit after Gauff as a tribute amid the tennis star’s Roland-Garros pursuit.
Stephen Curry and Cameron Brink are excited for their first Olympics
The moment Cameron realized that she had been selected in Team USA, she immediately broke down in tears overwhelmed by the news. “Oh my God! Oh my God! Thankyou.” An emotional Brink said as she was handed her new jersey for the upcoming tournament. After finally soaking in that her lifelong dream had come true, Brink revealed how excited she was to be making her Olympics debut, “Most excited to be an Olympian. It’s been a dream my whole life and an opportunity to win the gold medal… Honestly, I can’t even put it to words.” In her debut season with the Sparks, she is currently averaging nearly nine points and over five rebounds. And that could surely help Team USA bag a gold in Paris.
Meanwhile, her God brother Steph also expressed his excitement to be making his Olympic debut at the age of 36 during an episode of Inside the NBA a few weeks ago. “I’m beyond excited.” Curry said as he was thrilled at the opportunity despite being a part of two World Cup teams over the course of his career. More importantly, this could be Steph’s last chance to go to this stage as the next time the Olympics arrive, he will be forty and most likely retired or on the verge of it. And even Steph knows it, “I’m 36 now and I don’t know if I’ll have another one so this is definitely the year.”
As Steph and Cameron book their tickets to Paris, fans hope that both God siblings can return home with gold around their necks making the campaign even more special.
