Patrick Mahomes continues to take hits almost 3 months after the beating he received from the Philadelphia Eagles

On February 9, during the Super Bowl, the Kansas City Chiefs were crushed 40-22 by the Philadelphia Eagles and lost the chance to be the first team to win three consecutive NFL championships.

The Chiefs faced several issues despite being AFC champions for three consecutive years. One of the problems was their limited explosive plays, and another was the protection of Patrick Mahomes. The quarterback was sacked 36 times during the regular season and 6 times in the Super Bowl.

During the offseason, the Chiefs perhaps lost the best man on their offensive line, Joe Thuney, after he was traded for a fourth-round draft pick in 2026 to the Chicago Bears. The team immediately responded by signing Jaylon Moore from the 49ers, who will be a key player to strengthen the left side of the offensive line.

The Bears look to give Joe Thuney an extension

During a press conference, the general manager of the Chicago Bears, Ryan Poles, stated that extending Joe Thuney's contract is "definitely" one of the team's top priorities in the short term.

Thuney, who will turn 33, has proven to be a reliable and durable player throughout his career. Despite missing two games during the 2022 regular season and another two in the 2023 postseason, he has been a consistent starter with both the New England Patriots and the Kansas City Chiefs.

He will also be a cornerstone for protecting Caleb Williams, the first overall pick in the 2024 draft, who will enter his second year and is looking to make a strong step forward to showcase his great talent to the entire NFL. Williams displayed his potential in several games last season, but the lack of protection prevented him from shining as he did at USC.
