The NFL Combine is taking place this week in Indianapolis and it's a time where all of the current NFL players look back at their own Combine performances. It might be hard to think of a time when the Kansas City Chiefs didn't have Patrick Mahomes as their quarterback, but in 2017, he was about to enter the professional phase of his football career.
Two years later, Mahomes had led the Chiefs to their first AFC Championship appearance since the Joe Montana days and three years after his Combine appearance, he had won his first Super Bowl, which was Kansas City's first title in five decades.
Mahomes has gone on to win three Super Bowls in six appearances before even turning 30. Even with all of the success he's had, however, he still has something he's not too proud of, and that's the 40-time he put up when he was at the Combine hoping to impress teams (4.8 seconds, in case you were wondering).
Since Mahomes has become one of the best players in the league (or arguably THE best player), NFL Network has had some fun at his expense, comparing Mahomes' 40-time with players who currently are running the drill. Mahomes appears to be ready for the bit to retire.
Patrick Mahomes jokes that NFL Network should leave him and his 40-time alone
"All I ask is that NFL Network doesn't use my 40 overlay anymore," Mahomes kidded on X. While he asked nicely, it's doubtful that NFL Network respects Mahomes' request.
Chances are that, as long as Mahomes is playing at the level he is, he'll have to continue seeing his 40-time compared to all of the youngsters coming out of college and entering the pros. Hey, it could be worse, right? At least Mahomes is winning Super Bowls. Who needs speed when that's the case?
