Ankle injury who?
At least, that's how it looked during the Kansas City Chiefs' last game against the Houston Texans.
Coming into the game, Mahomes' status was up in the air due to a high ankle sprain he suffered against the Browns. But, he came out ready to go on Saturday and led Kansas City to another win.
However, he has a short week. The Chiefs will travel and play again on Wednesday in a Christmas Day game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
With so little time to rest, how is Mahomes feeling heading into this matchup?
"I feel good. I mean, obviously we haven’t done a ton as far as getting out there on the practice field. We’ve done some walk – a walk-through, well actually two walk-throughs now," he told reporters on Monday. "I feel like I can move around and then do what I need to do, and now we’ll get to get to a little bit faster-paced practice and see where I’m truly at. I thought all-in-all I came out pretty well.”
His ankle didn't appear to hold him back this past weekend, but according to him, he's feeling even better this week.
“I think I’ll be in a better place ankle-wise. I mean, obviously the body’s going to be sore with the short week and everything like that, but I think the ankle should be in a better place," he added. "Obviously, we’ll see at practice today. As far as how I felt after this game compared to the one before, I’m definitely in a lot better place.”
That's exactly what Chiefs Kingdom wants to hear from their star quarterback. Nothing will stop Mahomes from playing the game he loves.
And head coach Andy Reid had nothing but praise for Mahomes after going out there and competing through this injury.
“He (Patrick Mahomes) did good. Yeah, it’s sore but he did well. (He’s a) pretty tough kid, man," Reid said. "That was an amazing thing he did.”
Get ready Steelers, because Mahomes is ready to go.
