New Las Vegas Raiders head coach Pete Carroll has a lot of players to get familiar with after taking a year off from football and switching conferences. The AFC West is loaded with talent right now and is one of the toughest divisions in the NFL.
Last year, many questioned the Denver Broncos' decision to take quarterback Bo Nix in the first round of the draft. He quickly won over a lot of people with his strong play.
Nix threw 29 touchdowns to 12 interceptions as a rookie and led the Broncos to 10 wins. He finished third in Offensive Rookie of the Year voting behind Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels and Raiders tight end Brock Bowers.
Though Carroll's job is to figure out how to make Nix look bad, he was very impressed with the young quarterback last season.
“(Nix is) exactly what they would have hoped he would have been,” Carroll told The Athletic. “I saw him from the opening game of the year and he was not ready to be the guy that he showed that he was later on in the season. He became a dynamic football player very quickly. A tremendous amount of credit to Sean (Payton) — building him and making him. It’s hard to figure those guys out sometimes, and everybody has their own way of going about it and the results are all across the lot, how the young guys do. And you have to have your act together to figure that out and Sean surely did.”
It remains to be seen if Nix is the real deal but he's definitely off to a strong start.
