Pete Carroll’s warning to John Spytek draws social media buzz

New Las Vegas Raiders head coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Spytek are less than a week away from their first draft together.

Drafting sixth overall, the Raiders were once believed to have a predictable outcome. However, recent developments have lead to all options being placed on the table. Reasonably, there are about four or five options the Raiders might have presented to them by the time they are finally on the clock.

The consensus pick, however, remains Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty, and Carroll may have tipped his hand just a little bit.

Carroll’s warning to Spytek regarding Jeanty has thrown social media into a frenzy.

During a press conference on Friday to discuss the draft, Spytek was asked about the possibility of drafting Jeanty. Before Spytek could respond, however, Carroll leaned in and whispered into his general manager’s ear “Be careful…” before drawing back.

Unsurprisingly, speculation on social media ran rampant.

Many assumed Carroll overextended and inadvertently revealed that the Raiders are taking Jeanty with the sixth overall pick if he is on the board. Others were less convinced, believing Carroll purposely let that part of his warning be heard to keep attention off of who his team is actually targeting. Regardless, Jeanty to the Raiders is once again back as the most obvious pick outside of Miami quarterback Cam Ward going first overall to the Tennessee Titans.

Perhaps Carroll putting the NFL world back on Jeanty’s trail is what he was hoping for all along.
