Philadelphia Eagles Could Make Shocking Roster Move Prior To 2024 Season

The Philadelphia Eagles are going to be an interesting team to watch when roster cut time arrives. With the NFL offseason winding down and most of the moves already being made, teams are preparing for the start of training camp and preseason action. Along with this stage of the offseason and the start of those important times leading up to the regular season, come roster cuts.

Philadelphia Eagles, Howie Roseman

Howie Roseman has added a ton of talent to the roster this offseason, especially in the defensive secondary. That could lead to a surprising move or two being made.

It appears that one move, in particular, may be coming. The Philadelphia Eagles might make a shocking defensive roster move prior to the 2024 season.

NBC Sports Philadelphia revealed a potential cut candidate that would be very surprising. That candidate is none other than veteran cornerback James Bradberry.

Here is what they had to say about the Philadelphia Eagles potentially cutting Bradberry.

“After a dismal season in 2023, Bradberry is still on the roster … for now. While (Howie Roseman) said at the Combine that Bradberry was a part of the Eagles’ plans, the team then drafted defensive backs with their first two picks. Cutting Bradberry after June 1 would spit up the dead cap hit over the next two seasons and make it a little more palatable. Perhaps the Eagles take a look at their young players in camp before making a decision.”

Bradberry would be a very surprising cut, as he has been a key part of the Eagles’ secondary. During the 2023 season, he played in 16 games, recording 54 total tackles, one fumble recovery, an interception, and 13 defended passes.

Those numbers are solid. However, the Philadelphia Eagles did go out and bring in both Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean this offseason in the 2024 NFL Draft. Both of those rookies will be able to play immediate roles this season.

Being able to save some money and allow the young dynamic talent to play would be a wise decision for the Eagles. Assuming the two youngsters show that they’re ready in training camp and the preseason, moving on from Bradberry makes prefect sense.

If the Eagles were to release Bradberry, it would not take him long to find a new job. There are plenty of teams around the NFL that need help at the cornerback position. In fact, Philadelphia might even be able to find a trade partner rather than cutting him.

Expect to continue hearing rumors surround the Philadelphia Eagles as the season draws closer. They’ve been busy this offseason and it seems likely that they’ll continue to be in the coming weeks.
