Philadelphia Eagles' secondary set for big boost following bye week

The Philadelphia Eagles are set to get a nice boost to their secondary after their Week 5 Bye Week.

Injured starting safety Sydney Brown tells Jeff McClane of the Philadelphia Inquirer that he expects to make his way off the PUP (Physically Unable to Perform) list at the four-week minimum.

That means he could be ready to go as soon as Week 6 against the Cincinnati Bengals.

"Eagles safety Sydney Brown, who started the season on PUP as he rehabs from an ACL injury to his right knee, expressed optimism about his return," McLane wrote on X/Twitter. "Said he expects to be off PUP after the minimum four weeks and would need two weeks to ramp up for what he hopes is a return by Week 6."

Brown is still rehabbing an ACL injury he suffered during the Eagles' 2023 regular-season finale against the New York Giants.

His return will be pivotal with the Eagles' slim at the safety position. With James Bradberry kicking off the season on Injured Reserve due to a leg injury, the Eagles have just C.J. Chauncey-Gardner, Avonte Maddox, Reed Blankenship, Tristin McCollum and maybe Cooper DeJean available in their safety room.

This is Year 2 for Brown, who was selected out of Illinois in the third round of the 2023 NFL draft, and he is expected to take massive strides once he's healthy again.

As a rookie, it didn't take long for Brown to adjust to the NFL level, appearing in 14 games (five starts), registering 45 tackles, three passes defended, one forced fumble and an interception that he returned for a 99-yard touchdown.
