Raiders Failed $25 Million Free Agent Signing Listed as Possible Cap Causality

The Las Vegas Raiders have to make some difficult decisions this offseason if they want to build their organization back into the winner that it once was. That's why owner Mark Davis hired longtime Tampa Bay Buccaneers' executive John Spytek to be the team's next general manager.

Gardner Minshew says the quiet part out loud about the Raiders' continued red zone struggles

Addressing the quarterback position will be priority No. 1 for the franchise, but first, the team has to rid themselves of the stink that plagued the room last season. ESPN's Bill Barnwell proposed that Raiders veteran quarterback Gardner Minshew could become a cap casualty this offseason as the team tries to build toward a better future.

Minshew had arguably the worst season of his career for the Raiders in 2024 after the team's previous general manager, Tom Telesco, brought him in on a two-year deal worth up to $25 million. Luckily, only $15 million of that was guaranteed, and the team can save $6 million against the cap this season if they release him after June 1st.

The new regime in Las Vegas will likely move on from Minshew and attempt to sign another veteran quarterback in free agency or test their luck with one of the top college prospects. Sam Darnold is the most common name linked to the Raiders on the free agent market, but Colorado's Shedeur Sanders and Ole Miss' Jaxson Dart are both good options in the draft as well.
