The Raiders are a lot more than a quarterback away from being good, but having a good quarterback would definitely help. At 2-6 through eight weeks of the season, it's evident their long term answer is not currently on the roster.
The situation is so bad, it's been deemed "ugly" by Brad Gagnon of Bleacher Report.
"It couldn't be clearer that both Gardner Minshew II and Aidan O'Connell are top-notch backups at best for a team that must start from scratch under center," wrote Gagnon.
While O'Connell didn't entirely get a fair shake under center before suffering a fractured thumb. Minshew has certainly had enough run to prove that he can at very least keep possession of the football. However, he has proven the exact opposite of that up to this point in the season.
Through the seven games that Minshew has played in, he has 1,377 yards, six touchdowns, and eight interceptions. It's not a great recipe for success when your interceptions outweigh your touchdowns at any point in the season.
It's become so apparent that the Raiders will be drafting a quarterback that multiple names have been attached to the team. The main name being thrown around is Sheduer Sanders from the Colorado Buffaloes, next up is Jalen Milroe with the Alabama Crimson Tide.
If the NFL season were to end right now, eight weeks into the season, the Raiders would hold the seventh pick in the 2025 NFL draft. While it is a top 10 pick it does put them in no mans land when it comes to landing one of the top quarterback prospects.
The good news for that problem is, it doesn't look like the Raiders are going to start winning anytime soon. Their "ugly" quarterback situation is a large part of the reason that they will continue to lose more than they win.
