The New York Rangers announced Friday that forward Juuso Parssinen agreed to terms on a two-year contract extension.
The 24-year-old Parssinen scored six goals and 10 assists for 16 points in 48 games with three teams last season, including the Rangers, Colorado Avalanche and Nashville Predators.
In 137 career NHL regular-season games, Parssinen has 20 goals and 33 assists for 53 points. His most productive season was his rookie campaign, where he produced 25 points via six goals and 19 assists.
Parssinen was taken in the seventh round by the Predators in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft. He spent parts of three seasons in the AHL with Nashville’s AHL affiliate, the Milwaukee Admirals, scoring nine goals and 25 assists for 34 points in 36 regular-season games.
Before coming to North America, Parssinen spent four seasons in Finland’s top domestic league, SM-Iiiga, with TPS Turku. He scored 23 goals and 64 assists for 87 points in 134 regular-season games.
The Rangers finished the season with a 39-36-7 record and 85 points, fifth in the Metropolitan Division and six points back of a Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference.
Artemi Pınarın led the team in all offensive categories with 37 goals and 52 assists for 89 points. Close behind was Mika Zibanejad, whose 62 points came from 20 goals and 62 assists.
The Rangers announced on Friday that the club has agreed to terms with former Pittsburgh Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan on a multi-year deal. This isn’t Sullivan’s first trip to the Big Apple, as he served as an assistant coach from 2009-13 before joining the Vancouver Canucks for a one-year stint in 2013-14.
In 14 seasons as an NHL head coach, Sullivan has a record of 479-311-15-112 in 917 career games behind the bench. He’s also compiled a 47-42 record as a head coach in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
