Finding yourself back on the dating market after almost 30 years must be incredibly difficult, so it's not surprising that Kyle Richards is not jumping straight into a new relationship following her split from Mauricio Umansky. Fans of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star have been curious to find out more about how she is processing her breakup, and her sister Kathy Hilton gave insight into Kyle's life in a new interview with ET. She referred to it as "very scary" and "heartbreaking" seeing the pair split after 28 years of marriage.
"You know, there's good days for Kyle and then there's tough days," Kathy told the outlet. "And I am there talking to her every day, several times, and I wanna be there for her."
How Is Kyle Richards Coping Following Her Split From Mauricio Umansky?
Not long before it was revealed that Kyle Richards and Mauricio Umansky would go their separate ways, there were rumors about trouble in paradise. The couple, who married in 1996, addressed these reports in a joint statement posted on Instagram in July 2023. "Any claims regarding us divorcing are untrue," the statement reads. "However, yes, we have had a rough year. The most challenging one of our marriage. But we both love and respect each other tremendously. There has been no wrongdoing on anyone's part." In October, Umansky told People that he and Richards had separated but were not completely over.
"We've been married for 27 years," he told the publication. "We're having a bit of a rough patch." He continued, saying, "sometimes life throws you different things," and "you've gotta work through it." Umansky also used the interview as an opportunity to clarify his marital status. "She and I currently are separated, but we are not throwing in the towel," he said. "We're not just saying that to say that. We actually are not yet throwing in the towel."
There have been several reports about the couple since then, and the status of their relationship remains somewhat unclear. Still, Richards has removed Umansky from her last name on social media. On an Amazon livestream in February 2024 (via Today), she also claimed that she and Umansky could be with other people. "We're allowed to," she said. "We’re allowed to do what we want." But ending a decades-long relationship after they built a life and raised children is ultimately going to take its toll on Richards, and Kathy Hilton acknowledged in her interview with ET.
"It's very scary after almost 28 years. She's been married her whole life. And the four children," Kathy said. "It doesn't matter what age. It's heartbreaking."
