So the Tampa Bay Buccaneers secondary isn’t looking great right now. Zyon McCollum may come back (the word may doing some serious heavy lifting), but Bryce Hall is out for the year and Josh Hayes will be out for a period of time.
Meaning the only healthy corner heading into this game is Jamel Dean. And, to be perfectly blunt, I don’t know how long that’ll last. It seems like Bowles is fine with rolling with guys like Tyler Funderburk. So, guess that means I won’t be able to speculate on what FAs they’ll bring in. A shame.
The big blow to the secondary came from the injury to safety Antoine Winfield Jr late in the game.
Via Fox Sports Greg Auman,
“If “a couple” of games is two, my understanding is that Antoine Winfield is more likely to miss 3-4 weeks with his ankle/foot sprain. Tough loss for a suddenly depleted Bucs secondary.”
The Winfield Jr injury is a gigantic blow to the team. He was easily the best player on defense last year where he did it all. He led the league in forced fumbles (6) and had three picks. While it seems like it won’t be long term, this team couldn’t afford to lose him against one of the NFC’s best.
We’ll see who is able to come back for the Lions game and expect them to bring back some guys poached off their practice squad. But this team is desperately hurting on defense and cannot afford many more losses.
