Report: Chiefs Named Top Fit For Free Agent Rival

After spending the 2024 season with the Cleveland Browns and Buffalo Bills, wide receiver Amari Cooper remains a free agent as we near the end of June. A top-five pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, Cooper has been one of the league’s most consistent players since joining the professional ranks, but showed some signs of slowing down last year. In his 14 games with the two organizations, the wide receiver recorded just 44 receptions for 547 yards and four touchdowns, becoming more of a role player as Josh Allen’s Bills made it to the AFC Championship Game.

Is Cooper truly over the hill, or did his wrist injury limit his ability to impact the game? After all, he’s just one season removed from recording 1,250 yards with Deshaun Watson and Joe Flacco, so it stands to reason he could bounce back in 2025. In a recent video, Bleacher Report made their case for why the Kansas City Chiefs should sign Amari Cooper as a free agent.

Bleacher Report: Chiefs Should Sign Free Agent Amari Cooper

The Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver room is a high-risk, high-reward unit that could use a veteran free agent like Amari Cooper to add some stability to the unit. On paper, Patrick Mahomes is in good hands with the reliable Rashee Rice set to return from injury and 2024 first-round pick Xavier Worthy hoping to build on an up-and-down rookie season. Marquise Brown, meanwhile, is returning from injury and should provide another deep threat.

If all three players work out, the Chiefs should have a dangerous offense. However, Rice is returning from a serious injury and could still face a suspension, the jury is still out on whether or not Xavier Worthy can be a legitimate starter, and Brown hasn’t eclipsed 710 receiving yards since 2021. Amari Cooper probably won’t be a 1,200-yard receiver for the Chiefs, but the veteran free agent could be a solid second or third option in the event one or two of these players don’t reach their potential next year.
