A new report suggests the Las Vegas Raiders will probably have to compromise on the return when they ultimately decide to trade wide receiver Davante Adams.
The expectation among NFL executives is that the Raiders will likely have to settle for a third-round pick “and some change” for Adams, according to Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports. The Raiders are still discussing how much of Adams’ $13.5M salary they would be willing to pay down in order to facilitate a trade with the best possible return.
Reports have indicated that the Raiders are asking for a second-round pick for Adams, but that price is seen within the league as unrealistic. According to Jones, there is some belief that owner Mark Davis is pressuring the team’s front office to try to get a deal done at that price.
A third-round pick would be in line with some other big wide receiver trades recently. The Buffalo Bills got a second-round pick from Houston for Stefon Diggs but also had to kick in fifth- and sixth-round selections to make that happen. The Raiders may well be in a similar boat.
Adams has requested a trade from the Raiders, and it looks increasingly likely that he will be moved well before the Nov. 5 trade deadline. The wide receiver himself has fueled speculation about potential destinations, whether he means to or not.
