As Robert Irwin prepares for his “Dancing With the Stars” debut on season 34, his sister (and “DWTS” season 21 winner) Bindi Irwin has plenty of advice for him. Find out what Bindi told Robert is the key to success in the dance competition.
Robert Irwin Looks to Sister Bindi for ‘DWTS’ Tips
Robert, who was the first celebrity announced for the upcoming season of “DWTS,” has some insider info when it comes to the show.
In a May 2025 interview with People, the conservationist shared some of the wisdom that his sister Bindi passed along to him. “There is no sibling rivalry. It’s actually really nice,” Robert shared. “She has just said, ‘Go into this and make it your own.’ She said it’s going to be a completely different experience.”
Robert continued, “I mean, I was there as a little 11-year-old kid with my little blonde bowl cut watching her and trying to support from the sidelines, and now Bindi is going to be there supporting me, and she’ll have a lot more dance wisdom than 11-year-old Robert.”
He noted, “I didn’t have much to bring to the table, but she does. She’s done it. She’s won it.”
The conservationist added, “I’m definitely going to be leaning on her a lot, as I have throughout my entire life, to be honest. I think loss brings a family together like nothing else, and for us, for Bindi and myself, we’ve always had each other’s backs through everything, and this is going to be no different. I feel very lucky that I’ve got her in my corner.”
Bindi’s season 21 partner, Derek Hough, who now serves as a judge on “Dancing With the Stars,” weighed in with his prediction about Robert.
At the April Disney Entertainment Television’s Get Real Event, Hough told People, “It’s been 10 years since that little guy was on that front row rooting for [his sister] Bindi Irwin. And to see the man that he’s become in a short 10 years is pretty amazing, man.”
Hough added, “We’re really lucky to have him.”
He also predicted that Robert is “going to go far” in the competition. “I think that he, them as a family, they are truly just who they are. What you see is what you get. They are really that kind, they are really that positive, they really do have that energy,” Hough explained.
The “DWTS” judge added, “It’s not upfront. And I think that this show, when you are truly authentic in that way, it really pierces through. So I think in that regard, he’s going to go far just based off of the person he is.”
