Robert Irwin recently shared a touching moment from a flight that left fans emotional. The 21-year-old took to Instagram on Sunday, June 22, to post a video of himself smiling as he discovered his late father Steve Irwin’s movie, “The Crocodile Hunter: Collision Course,” available in the in-flight entertainment selection.\
In the clip, Robert scrolls through the “Popular Movies” section before spotting the 2002 adventure-comedy film featuring his parents, Steve and Terri Irwin. As the movie appeared on the screen, he panned the camera back to himself and gave a proud thumbs-up.
A Family Legacy That Lives On
“When the in-flight movie selection is elite 👌,” he captioned the video, which was set to “Home” by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros — a song that includes the lyric, “Home is wherever I’m with you.”
The emotional post quickly resonated with fans and family alike. Robert’s sister, Bindi Irwin, commented, “The best 🙌,” while a follower wrote, “Just a boy. On a flight with his dad.” Another user added, “Blessed to still be able to see his dad doing his thing.”
Steve Irwin, affectionately known as “The Crocodile Hunter,” died in 2006 at age 44 after being struck in the chest by a stingray while filming in Australia. His legacy endures through his children and the continued work of the Australia Zoo.
“The Crocodile Hunter: Collision Course,” which aired between the fourth and fifth seasons of Steve’s beloved wildlife series, follows Steve and Terri as they attempt to protect a crocodile from poachers, unaware that the men are actually CIA agents.
Back in February, Robert appeared on the Australian talk show “The Project,” where he shared a cherished memory of his father. “Every morning, it didn’t matter rain, hail or shine, he’d load up Bindi and I on the front of his motorbike and we’d go rip around the Zoo and get ice cream,” Robert said. “So I just remember being on the front of the motorbike, covered in ice cream, just loving life.”
He also reflected on his father’s lasting global impact, which remains strong even nearly two decades after his passing. “It’s always amazing to me to see the global reaction and impact that Dad has till this day,” he said. “It’s very, very special.”
More recently, Robert made headlines for his modeling campaign with Australian underwear brand Bonds. Speaking to People, he admitted to thinking about how his father might react to the bold photos. “There’d be a few crikeys thrown around!” he joked. “But if I can carry forward a little bit of that positivity, that passion, that enthusiasm to a new generation, then my job’s done.”
Now, Robert is stepping into an entirely new spotlight as he prepares for his debut on Season 34 of “Dancing With the Stars.” The wildlife conservationist was the first celebrity announced for the upcoming season, and he’s already getting tips from someone who knows the ballroom well — his sister, Bindi Irwin, who won the mirrorball trophy in Season 21.
“There is no sibling rivalry. It’s actually really nice,” Robert told People in May. “She has just said, ‘Go into this and make it your own.’”
