Roy Jones Jr names conditions for surprise Mike Tyson rematch: ‘Nobody gets hurt’

Roy Jones Jr is keen to fight Mike Tyson again providing he is in the same condition he was for their first exhibition bout.

Jones Jr and Tyson met in an exhibition contest in 2020, which saw the pair generate huge paydays for their non competitive clash.

The pair showed brief flashes of their former skills, but were left without an injuries or significant risk.

But Tyson recently returned in a full professional bout aged 59 last year against Jake Paul, with huge health risk and poor physical conditioning.

He was beaten by the YouTuber-turned-boxer and it was a sad end to his career, given he indicated he would never lace up gloves again.

But Jones Jr insists he would still jump at the chance to put on a show with 'Iron Mike' again.

He told Action Network: "For what Mike did for the sport of boxing, I won’t tell Mike what to do because any time he picks up a boxing glove, the world pays attention.

"If Mike gets into good shape and gets his legs going, then he can do whatever he wants to do but if he can’t get his legs going and back like he did in the last fight then he shouldn’t fight again.

"Mike still had his legs against me but when he fought the last fight I didn’t know what was wrong with him.

"Mike is one of the strongest dudes and biggest punchers I’ve ever been in the ring with and I would get in the ring and share it with him again because of who he is and who I am.

"We are both two legends and do legendary things. Who else has got in the ring at that age and done those things?

"It was an awesome event and everybody loved it and the fact it ended as a draw was even better because nobody lost, nobody got hurt and it was a beautiful thing.

"If it happened again, I would be the first to jump in and do it first but I want to make sure Mike can heel and can do it."

In truth, it is highly unlikely Tyson can get back into any shape like he was five years ago, having suffered with several health conditions.

He was forced to pull out of his last clash with Paul before it was eventually rescheduled, concerningly revealing he 'almost died'.

Jones Jr hasn't fared much better when making comebacks, having lost in his full professional comeback against MMA star Anthony Pettis in 2023.

But he insists that the money available still makes it a lure to step back in for a final time.

He added: "I got a friend of mine who wants to get me back in shape and make me do one more appearance in the ring.

"But I don’t want to necessarily want to do that unless the money is there and it is worth while like the money [Saudi boxing chief] Turki Alalshikh is paying.

"Otherwise, it is not worth my time or the risk to go back into the ring, it makes no sense.

"I would fight KSI but he isn’t going to fight me.

"I understand what he is doing, and he wants to stay away from killers, even old killers and he won’t want to do it. I don’t chase people though."
