Matt Rempe's play has improved as of late, and after a major reaction at practice, it appears that he may have signed an extension with the Rangers according to speculation surrounding the situation.
In recent times, despite terrible targeting from NHL officials, Matt Rempe's overall play has improved immensely, as he has become a key piece of their fourth line.
Now, it appears the New York Rangers may be ready to reward him, as Rempe ended practice on Tuesday by getting a major round of stick taps from his teammates.
While it wasn't immediately clear as to why this happened, now, speculation has revealed that it may be an extension incoming for the 22-year old, as he is set to be a restricted free agent this summer.
This hasn't been confirmed and at this point is purely speculation, but given the lack of other news coming out of New York, there likely isn't many other reasons that something like this would be taking place at practice.
In 33 games this season, Rempe has posted 2 goals and 5 points while posting a +5 differential, and with the discipline seemingly getting under control, there's a chance he could become a very valuable piece in the Rangers lineup moving forward.
We will wait and see whether something gets officially announced by GM Chris Drury and the Rangers, but given his improvement and his obvious physical impact on the game, Rempe is clearly the type of player that could positively impact a team in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and with an extension likely not to cost too much, this would be a very wise move for New York.
