Alexis Lafreniere has struggled to reach his potential in New York, and now, several candidates have emerged as landing spots for the former No. 1 overall pick.
The New York Rangers struggled mightily in 2024/25, and with their new Head Coach in Mike Sullivan, they're looking to turn things around very quickly moving forward and get back to Stanley Cup contention.
To do so, they may be looking to target an upgrade in their forward group, and unsurprisingly, that has brought Alexis Lafreniere's name up in trade conversations once again heading into the summer.

That's a discussion that's been had many times in recent years, and now, Bleacher Report have identified this group of teams as the ones to look out for in potentially acquiring Lafreniere this summer:
Calgary Flames
Montreal Canadiens
Anaheim Ducks
Chicago Blackhawks
Utah Mammoth
Minnesota Wild.
While he's flashed great potential, tallying a career high of 57 points in 2023/24, that was the one time in his four full seasons he's scored over 45 in a single year, and at this point in time, it's clear that there's something wrong with the development of young players in New York.
Kaapo Kakko has gone on to much better success with Seattle, and now, it may be time for Lafreniere to move as well, and although he's not lived up to the potential yet, at just 23-years of age, a change of scenery could be perfect for him.
At this point however, it's still not confirmed whether or not the team are looking to move the former No. 1 pick, but if they do, it's safe to say that they'll get a very good return for him with the potential still through the roof.
