Seattle Seahawks star wide receiver D.K. Metcalf requested a trade from the team on Wednesday.
He met with the front office this week and requested a trade, which the Seahawks seem intent on exploring during the offseason.
According to "Steelers Afternoon Drive" host Zachary Smith , the Pittsburgh Steelers have already shown interest in Metcalf and have called the Seahawks to tell them that. They called last year to do their due diligence and are doing so again here.
The Steelers have badly needed an upgrade at the wide receiver position since the start of last season. They didn't have a true WR2 on the roster after they lost out on adding Brandon Aiyuk since he signed an extension with the San Francisco 49ers.
They were all-in on trying to trade for him during the offseason and were very close to getting him until he signed back with the 49ers.
They tried to plug the hole with Mike Williams around the NFL trade deadline, but that move didn't work out the way they wanted, and now they're back to square one.
Metcalf is easily the top wide receiver on the trade market, and for good reason. He finished the 2024 season with 66 receptions for 992 yards and five touchdowns.
He has compiled three 1,000-yard seasons and has finished every season with at least 900 receiving yards. His best individual season came in 2020 when he compiled 83 receptions for 1,303 yards and 10 touchdowns.
The Seahawks will ask for a big return since he's one of the best receivers in the league. The Steelers could pair him with George Pickens and have a great one-two punch at receiver heading into the 2025 season.
They still have to figure out their quarterback situation, but they're trying to be aggressive during the offseason since they haven't won a playoff game in almost a decade.
