Steelers Reportedly Meet with National Championship-Winning Quarterback

The Pittsburgh Steelers are not being shy about their hunt for a quarterback for 2025.

After a season of Russell Wilson and Justin Fields didn't produce a bonafide starter, Pittsburgh has been linked to both seasoned veterans in free agency or via trade, and are also on the hunt in Indianapolis at the NFL Scouting Combine.

Steelers Reportedly Meet with National Championship-Winning Quarterback

According to DK Pittsburgh Sports' Chris Halicke, the Steelers have now met with national championship-winning quarterback Will Howard of the Ohio State Buckeyes.

"The Steelers had an informal meeting this week with Ohio State quarterback Will Howard, according to a team source," Halicke wrote. "From what I hear, Howard really impressed during his meeting with the Steelers. Since it was an informal meeting, Howard didn't meet with Mike Tomlin or Omar Khan, but definitely left a big enough impression to possibly follow up with him at Ohio State's pro day or for a pre-draft visit."

Howard helped the Buckeyes roll through the 12-team College Football Playoff last season as he threw for 4,010 yards while completing 73.1 percent of his passes with 35 touchdowns and 10 picks in 16 games.

Even if the Steelers sign a veteran free agent or make a trade for one, it's still possible they draft a quarterback to sit behind him.

While they may not take on at No. 21 overall in the first round, there will be plenty of opportunity in the second round (No. 52) or later rounds to find one.

Pittsburgh currently has the No. 83 overall pick in the third round, the No. 122 pick in the fourth round, the No. 163 pick in the fifth round and the No. 225 and No. 231 picks in the seventh round.
