The Pittsburgh Steelers are showing persistent interest in a 2025 NFL Draft quarterback prospect. The Steelers met with Missouri quarterback Brady Cook at the 2025 East-West Shrine Bowl this week, after previously meeting with him at the Hula Bowl.
Teams meet with almost every prospect at the Shrine Bowl, but are more selective about who they send scouts for at the third-tier college all-star games like the Hula Bowl. Cook told Josh Carney of Steelers Depot that he met with the Steelers first at the Hula Bowl in Orlando before they circled back to him at the Shrine Bowl.
Cook measured in at the Shrine Bowl at 6-foot-1 7/8 and 209 pounds. He spent five seasons at Missouri, the final three as the Tigers’ primary starter. His best season came in 2023, when he completed 66.1% of his passes and threw for 3,317 yards and 21 touchdowns.
This past season, despite throwing to probable first-round wide receiver Luther Burden, Cook and Missouri took a step backward. He completed 62.6 of hiss passes and threw for 2,535 yards and 11 touchdowns. His passer rating fell from 157.2 to 139. Missouri went from 11-2 with a final ranking of eighth in 2023, to 10-23 with a. No. 22 AP poll in 2024.
Cook is largely considered to be a late-round pick or potential undrafted free agent in the 2025 NFL Draft. He is currently No. 354 on the NFL Mock Draft Database consensus big board.
The Steelers have just one quarterback under contract for 2025, former Miami Dolphins third-stringer Skylar Thompson . Starter Russell Wilson, backup Justin Fields and third-stringer Kyle Allen are all set to become free agents. The Steelers have not selected a quarterback in the NFL Draft since taking Kenny Pickett and Chris Oladokun in 2022.
