Steph Curry endorses Kamala Harris days before Olympic debut: "I hope she can win us the election"

These are interesting times for our country," said Steph Curry when asked about the political situation in the United States. And he's not wrong. The United States is embroiled in political chaos. A little less than two weeks ago, former president Donald Trump was the victim of an assassination attempt while campaigning ahead of the US elections due to take place in November. A bullet, fired by a sharpshooter located around 200 meters away from the stage in Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, grazed Trump's ear narrowly avoiding his face. A swift turn of the head saved his life. It really was a miracle.

‘Monumental next couple months': Steph Curry praises Kamala Harris, talks presidential race

And that's not all. Not long after, rumors began to circle of Joe Biden dropping out of the presidential race. The reason: his mental stability and concerns over his ability to govern for another four years. Such rumors became a reality on Sunday after 'Potus' posted a tweet confirming that he would not continue as the presidential candidate for the Democrats.

Not exactly stable times for the United States, then. With just months before the elections, there seem to be more doubts than ever.

Curry's political stance

Biden has since confirmed that he'll be passing the torch on to current Vice-president, Kamala Harris. He revealed the news in his latest address to the nation: "I revere this office, but I love my country more. It's been the honor of my life to serve as your president. But in the defense of democracy, which is at stake, I think it's more important than any title," the US President said in a poignant ten-minute speech.

It's a decision which has since been endorsed by basketball star Steph Curry who, in his first press conference just days before Team USA's debut against Serbia in Lille, expressed his support for the new democratic candidate.

"These are very interesting times for our country for sure," began Steph. "President Biden gave an endorsement and Vice President Harris is primed to bring her energy to this campaign and hopefully when she's on the ticket we'll win. It's a big deal, to say the least."

Hopefully when she's [Kamala Harris] on the ticket we'll win. It's a big deal

"She's always been a big supporter of ours, and I want to give that energy right back to her. I'm excited to be representing the US and there's no doubt these next couple of months are going to be monumental for our country and the direction it's headed. We want to do our part and unify the country. Sport brings a lot of people together and we want to bring that positive energy and optimism especially considering how divided our country is right now," concluded the Team USA star.

As political uncertainty prevails in the States, Curry and his teammates will want to ensure they get their hands on a gold medal and give the people something to celebrate outside all the exhausting political noise. "I'll play against anyone as long as we're in the final and we can get the gold medal," said Steph with a big smile on his face, just before heading back to the team's hotel ahead of the Opening Ceremony on Saturday.
