Steph can not see himself playing for another franchise.
Following the Paris Olympics and after losing Klay Thompson, there were speculations on whether Steph Curry would finish his career with the Golden State Warriors.
Before the end of August, he attempted to silence the rumors when he signed a contract extension that added one more year to his current deal. However, with the Dubs unable to land their top free-agent targets during the offseason, doubters think that Steph could still change his mind if they cannot compete for a championship. The two-time MVP brushed off those stories again.
"It always has been and still is a goal of mine to be a Warrior for life, to stay competitive throughout that process," said Curry during the Warriors' Media Day. "I'm very confident that being here and being a relevant winning team is possible. Until I'm proven otherwise, that's the way I'm moving forward."
Warriors add three veterans during the offseason
After losing Thompson, the Bay Area team reportedly targeted Paul George and Lauri Markkanen in free agency. However, Klay ended up joining Western Conference rival Dallas while Markkanen stayed put in Utah.
Golden State made three veteran additions: Buddy Hield, Kyle Anderson, and De'Anthony Melton. Those names don't weigh as much as a PG or a Markkanen. Chef Curry admitted he's unsure if the three help them get over the top, but he sounded optimistic.
"All three guys we brought in all are veterans," Curry added. "Established veterans that know how to play the game. Good pieces that you need to be a championship-type team. Does that mean we're there? I don't know."
Dubs are underdogs
The Las Vegas sportsbooks don't think the Warriors are serious contenders this season. As of the latest odds boards, only four teams have an implied probability of at least 10% to win the 2025 NBA championship. These are the Boston Celtics (24.4%), Oklahoma City Thunder (12.5%), New York Knicks (11.1%), and the Philadelphia 76ers (10%)
"You ask all 30 teams last season we have championship aspirations; you'd probably take 8 of them serious, 12 of them," continued Steph. "So I think we're in a position where we can be a relevant team early, give ourselves a chance to compete, and then assess where we are because that's what every team has to go through. I want to win and I knoweverybody in the locker room wants to do their part to make it happen. So that's how we're approaching the season."
The Warriors are currently outside the Top 10 as far as betting odds are concerned, and at their current price, they are considered longshots to take home the Larry O'Brien next season. But if there's one thing we learned from the recent performance in the Paris Olympics, it's that you can never count out a team that has Curry in it.
