Southern Charm was full of drama this year. But none was as petty as the feud between Salley Carson and Taylor Ann Green. The newbie waltzed onto the show and stole viewers’ hearts. But Taylor had an uphill battle to climb with her friend group after she lied to them last season. The women couldn’t help themselves when it came to interacting. Even though they agreed to keep their names out of one another’s mouths, the truce always seemed to falter.
Taylor Ann Green struggled for a Southern Charm storyline
Season 10 was hard for Taylor, mainly because she really didn’t have an interesting storyline. Season 9 showed her as the backstabbing friend of Olivia Flowers, and fans haven’t exactly forgotten that she hooked up with Austen Kroll. What quickly became irritating when it came to Taylor was her inability to stop reminding viewers about how happy her life was now. Being genuinely happy usually doesn’t provide a storyline. But as an eagle-eyed viewer, I started to notice a pattern.
The more Taylor tried to act like everything was going right, the more I started to notice that a lot of her life seemed to be fake. Having to watch Taylor and Shep Rose film together has been grating. She acts disinterested. The bigger issue is that she isn’t bonding with his group of friends. He brought her in as an OG, but I think she forgets that part. It doesn’t help that her meanness toward Salley and JT Thomas is extremely hard to watch. Being a mean girl won’t get you a long-term storyline.
Salley Carson isn’t trying to steal Taylor Ann Green’s man Gaston Rojas
Perhaps the dumbest thing two women can fight over is a man. And Gaston Rojas isn’t even the man to be fighting over. Taylor was the ringleader during the fight as she was the first to start the name-calling. Before the season premiere, Taylor spoke badly about Salley to Pop Culture. She said, “When you’re trying to come for my person, that doesn’t vibe with me. And so someone who’s trying to come in and damage that and try to play this narrative of the nice girl that’s coming in and trying to have someone’s back … I don’t know you. So when you’re coming in like this, it just seems like you’re trying to ruin something because you’re jealous of it.”
It probably didn’t help that Taylor also called the newbie a “hooker.” Salley had fueled the fire a little bit, too. During the season finale, she tried to bring about a truce but failed to keep her emotions in check. During the reunion, she also became so frustrated with Taylor that she told her she had no life. I bet these two could be friends if the men of their past didn’t get in their way. To make matters worse, Gaston didn’t even show up to the reunion. He could have easily helped squash the beef, but he felt it was better for his girlfriend to keep fighting.
The Southern Charm women should bond together not fight
I’ll keep yelling this sentiment from the rooftop, but the women of Southern Charm really should band together. For years, viewers have watched the playboys of King Street run the show. Between their one-night stands, threesomes, and cheating allegations, it’s become a boys club. For once, it would be nice if the women could make a stand. I firmly believe they have the power to do so, especially if they are led by Madison LeCroy and Molly O’Connell. Both women refuse to hold back their opinions and show their strength with pride.
Even though shows like Southern Charm have built their success off the backs of the catfights, I think we can do better. Personally, I loved watching Shep squirm as he opened himself up to vulnerability. I also enjoyed watching moments like Molly and her concert. And let’s be honest, if the women want to argue we should at least agree it should be more interesting than who screwed Gaston last. It’s time to get a grip, ladies, and do better.
Southern Charm is available to stream on Peacock.
