The Golden Bachelor season 2 will be better than season 1 because producers learned their lesson with Gerry Turner. The 72-year-old Gerry charmed audiences with his vulnerability, emotional moments, and genuine pursuit of connection, but his light quickly dimmed. Gary formed strong bonds with Faith Martin, Leslie Fhima, and Theresa Nist. He ultimately chose Theresa, and the two got engaged during the finale. During the heartfelt proposal, Gerry expressed his deep love for Theresa.
Unfortunately, Gerry and Theresa divorced shortly after their highly publicized wedding. While they initially cited not wanting to relocate away from their families, there were other issues at play. They had planned to move to South Carolina, but Gerry proposed a compromise of alternating between their existing homes every six weeks. That didn't work for Theresa, and they eventually chose to go their separate ways. After the mistakes with Gerry, The Golden Bachelor season 2 will be way better.
The Golden Bachelorette season 1 produced some decent choices for The Golden Bachelor season 2. While Guy Gansert's restraining order might preclude him from becoming the next Golden Bachelor, he's not the only viable option for Joan Vassos' inaugural season of The Bachelor spin-off. Mark Anderson would make a great Golden Bachelor, as would fan-favorite Charles Ling, who was eliminated early on.
Mark is more likely than Charles to appear on The Golden Bachelor because he's more open to moving on. Charles realized he was still grieving his past relationship and might need more time (and less publicity) to be with someone new. Mark would also make sense because he's no stranger to The Bachelor franchise: his daughter, Kelsey Anderson, is a Bachelor alum.
With Guy potentially out of the mix and Mark's intentions unknown, it might be better for The Golden Bachelor's producers to cast a completely unknown person. It's still a pretty new series, and they may need more alums to choose from before exclusively following The Bachelor tradition of casting from previous seasons. It would be best for producers to cast someone completely new and only cast women from his geographical area, similar to the Love Is Blind model. Older cast members aren't going to want to relocate in their golden years.
Producers have a better idea of what will make for good television and a lasting marriage after The Golden Bachelor and The Golden Bachelorette season 1. Gerry seemed like he would make a great lead, but his intentions with Theresa and the rest of the women may not have been pure. They also need to cast based on geographic location to prevent long-distance relationships that are sure to fail. Hopefully, producers make the right choice.
