The Golden Bachelorette: Chock Chapple Redeemed Himself After Stalker Allegations (He Was A Better Choice Than Guy Or Pascal)

Chock Chapple is savoring the moment after becoming engaged to Joan Vassos in The Golden Bachelorette season 1 finale. Chock, 60, had an easy path toward receiving Joan’s final rose. He and Joan had an immediate connection, and his brief exit from the mansion after his mother’s death made Joan realize how much he meant to her. However, Chock didn’t have as warm a reception from viewers or the other men in the mansion. Finalists Guy Gansert and Pascal Ibgui criticized Chock’s interactions with Joan as the competition narrowed.

Chock raised eyebrows with his possessive and, at times, controlling behavior towards Joan on The Golden Bachelorette season 1. The Kansas-based insurance executive was quick to declare his affection for Joan and spoke confidently about their future together. Chock’s body language was also criticized after he snuggled up to Joan on a group date, preventing the other men from getting close. After Pascal’s departure, he slammed Chock’s behavior and accused him of being a stalker. While Joan knew Chock was the one for her, he’s had to work to repair his image in the aftermath of their fairytale engagement.

Chock Seems More Relaxed After The Golden Bachelorette

The Competition Brought Out Chock’s Controlling Side

Chock’s attitude changed after The Golden Bachelorette finale. When he and Joan made their first appearance together as an engaged couple in After The Final Rose, Chock was noticeably relaxed. He was just happy to be with Joan.

It makes sense that Chock’s controlling agenda was a result of the competitive atmosphere in the mansion. He had to leave Joan with no doubt about his feelings if he wanted a chance at the final rose. Chock pushed hard during the competition, and he can relax now that it’s over. He seems much more at peace now that he no longer has to prove his love in a smothering way.

Joan and Chock’s plans for their future are proof of his easygoing attitude. The couple intends to divide their time between homes in Kansas, Maryland, and New York City, proving accusations that Chock would pressure Joan to adapt to his life are false. Chock and Joan are also enjoying their engagement and aren't rushing the wedding. Their long engagement is a welcome change after Chock fast-tracked his romance with Joan on The Golden Bachelorette.

Chock’s Refusing To Get Involved In Drama With His Castmates

He’s Showing More Restraint Than Pascal And Guy

Even after facing harsh public criticism, Chock’s taking the high road. Pascal made negative comments about Chock during an interview with Glamour, attacking Chock’s personality and his methods of pursuing Joan. It was unnecessary of Pascal to single Chock out, especially with an accusation as strong as calling him a stalker.

His careful handling of the situation proves to viewers that he’s a class act and is much more deserving of Joan than Pascal ever was.

Instead of fighting back, Chock chooses to stay above the drama. He told Entertainment Weekly that he hasn’t spoken to Pascal and wants to focus on positivity. Chock explained that when it comes to criticism and trolls, “You can’t solve somebody’s hate, you can’t solve somebody’s frustration.” It shows a lot of restraint for Chock to not call Pascal out or fight back. His careful handling of the situation proves to viewers that he’s a class act and is much more deserving of Joan than Pascal ever was.

Guy has also caused a stir with his social media posts, which centered around Joan leading up to the finale. Chock probably wasn’t too pleased to see photos of Guy kissing his fiancé splashed across social media. But Chock didn’t retaliate. His social media posts featured Joan but also highlighted his bond with the other Golden Bachelorette contestants, his children, and his life at home in Kansas. Chock kept his online presence low-key and didn’t seem phased by Guy’s continuous posts about Joan.

Chock’s Letting Joan Take Control As They Plan Their Wedding

His “Easy” Attitude Proves He’s Not Controlling

Although he has a reputation for being pushy, Chock has a surprisingly laid-back attitude toward wedding planning. He and Joan provided Us Weekly with an update on their engagement and revealed they are in no rush to get married. Joan commented on how “easy” Chock has been during the planning, allowing her to make all the decisions. Chock commented, “Just tell me when I need to show up and what to wear. It’s all good.

Chock’s attitude about the wedding proves he isn’t nearly as controlling as he appeared on The Golden Bachelorette. When it comes to important matters, Chock will let Joan take charge. He may have been persistent in his initial pursuit of Joan, but that’s changed as they've settled into life together. Now, Chock's focus is Joan's happiness.

Despite viewers’ reservations, Chock and Joan seem happy together. Joan may have been attracted to Pascal’s charisma and Guy’s down-to-earth charm, but Chock provides Joan with the security she's seeking. As they begin their life together, it’s evident that the controlling behavior Chock showed on The Golden Bachelorette was just a part of the competition. Chock’s tactics were successful, and he ended up with Joan. Now that he’s showing a different side of himself post-engagement, he’s working to redeem his image with viewers as well.
