The Golden Bachelorette star Joan Vassos is living out some kind of "late in life" fairy tale with Chock Chapple, to whom she gave her final rose, but his well-heeled image may be one reason why she's getting serious with him. Maybe it's not the right reason. They say it's just as easy to fall in love with a rich man as a poor one, but it's a fine line between being practical about financial matters and gold digging. The idealist isn't going to pursue someone for the sake of cold, hard cash.
When a woman has a "No Scrubs" attitude (the girl group TLC immortalized this mindset, hilariously, in song), she may overlook some beautiful qualities in love interests, simply because they don't have enough money. A fun tidbit about the famous tune is that one of its co-writers is The Real Housewives of Atlanta and Kandi & The Gang star Kandi Burruss. Anyway, the "No Scrubs" rationale has its logic, but it can lead to heartbreak.
A scrub is a guy that can't get no love from me
Hangin' out the passenger side
Of his best friend's ride
Trying to holla at me. - No Scrubs (TLC)
Joan is a sensitive person, but the lifestyle that Chock can provide is probably very alluring. She may be financially comfortable herself - however, unlike Chock, she's not out there flaunting a very affluent lifestyle. From his preppy blazers in pale pink to his buttery-soft leather loafers, it looks like he's rolling in money. That might not be true, but there are rumors he's a millionaire. In stark contrast to the ruthless but amusing "No Scrubs" attitude, there is the "Buffalo Stance" mindset. In that song, Neneh Cherry is looking for more. She sings:
No money man could win my love
It's sweetness that I'm thinking of.
Years of excellence in the insurance industry have taken the Wichita, Kansas resident Chock way out of "scrub" territory. He has a nice house, a good car... all the accoutrement of what society defines as success. Joan may feel like she's found a prince of the realm.
Is Chock A Good Guy With Money?
He Might Be But It's Too Soon To Call
But what about the sweetness of which Nenah sings? Is that there too? That's an important question. If Chock has money and sweetness, it's win-win. If he doesn't, all the dollar bills on this earth are not going to make her happy. Right now, it seems like the sometimes-controlling Chock is really there for her. When a rack in her closet fell down, and she was mourning the loss of her late husband John Vassos on his birthday, Chock stepped in with his tools, fixing the problem for Joan. She talked about her Thanksgiving experience in the TikTok shown above.
However, on November 27, John's birthday, she took to her car alone to record a poignant TikTok. She was still grieving the profound loss of a husband. Joan talked about "feeling weird" on his birthday, when Chock's kids were there. There was a lot going on, and that day had so many "moving parts." That's probably why she was close to tears in her vehicle.
As a graceful and considerate woman, she dealt with most of her pain alone. However, Chock needs to be able to share that pain with her.
He may be able to. If he can, he'll be the man who isn't a "scrub," but has that all-important "sweetness." He'll have everything she needs. If she's into his money, there's bound to be a price to pay. She seems lovely - mature, sensitive, emotionally whole - so while it's unlikely she's enticed by Chock's lifestyle, it's not impossible. Chock and Joan are hunting for a New York City love nest, and those aren't cheap. He has a big house in Wichita. He's willing to travel to her home in Maryland. All of this stuff costs money.
Madonna's a Material Girl - brazenly embracing the power of money and loving everything it can buy. However, she doesn't have a lot of softness - she's been accused of using people in the past, including the late (and astoundingly great) painter, Jean-Michel Basquiat. Joan may be cut from a different cloth. Hopefully, she is.
Joan May Be In It For Love
She Seems Like A Wonderful Woman
What makes Joan seem different is just her deep wisdom about life. She lost a beloved husband to pancreatic cancer. He went through such an awful ordeal before he died. John's cancer was detected at a later stage and the only treatment option was a very painful operation. He was destined to pass away, leaving her heartbroken.
This trauma probably taught her what is truly important in life. She may be looking for a good heart, and, as Billie Eilish sings in Ocean Eyes, a "diamond mind." Hopefully, in addition to a custom-made diamond engagement ring, The Golden Bachelorette star Joan gets a "diamond mind" too, because it is everything.
