Frank Bruno opens up on 'father figure' Muhammed Ali in first TV appearance since returning from health issues | The Sun

With his charisma, courage and class he transcended the world of boxing and touched lives all over the world.

Bruno, much like Anthony Joshua today, won the hearts of the nation back in his heyday with his good-natured humour and claimed the WBC heavyweight crown in 1995 after three previous unsuccessful attempts.

Like most boxers, he idolised Ali and would have been deeply touched by the letter sent to him by the great man.

Sent in 1993 at a difficult juncture in the Englishman's life, the letter is written in inimitable Ali style. Comical and humble, it is full of warmth and clearly intended to lift Brunos spirits.

As revealed by Boxing News and Views the letter reads:

Muhammad Ali letter to Frank Bruno » The MALESTROM

Dear Frank,

Although he had retired from the sport in the early 80s, Ali would at this time still have been one of the most famous people on the planet.

He not only inspired people through his greatness inside the ropes but the excitement generated by his effervescent personality and the dignity with which he dealt with his declining health led him to be loved and revered in all corners of the world.

Ali may have passed on but his legacy will remain forever through his words and deeds which illuminated the times he lived in.

For Frank Bruno, this simple, beautiful letter that he received from the greatest will always remain deeply cherished.
