The Minnesota Vikings have a really good roster heading into training camp. It's taken a few years for general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah to get things back on track. Once he did, things got significantly better, and easier to maximize their free agency signings.
When you bring in new players, some will end up getting cut and the Vikings are no exception to that. The Vikings have a few players who could be difficult cuts once they get to cutdown day at the end of August.
RB Ty Chandler
It's going to be really interesting to see how the Vikings go about building out their running back room. Do they want to try and maximize how this group play on offense? When it comes to depth at the position, they need to be able to play special teams.
That's where Chandler comes in. He has yet to figure it out when it comes to playing running back, but he's been excellent on special teams, especially as a personal protector. If Tre Stewart of Zavier Scott show something impressive on offense, that could make a decision more difficult.
ILB Brian Asamoah II
The Vikings have been more than willing to move on from a draft pick if they don't take the proper steps forward in development. They cut three of the four third-round picks from the 2021 NFL Draft just a year later because they weren't playing well.
Asamoah is in danger of being released before the end of his rookie contract. After a promising rookie year, Asamoah struggled to find a spot within Brian Flores' defense. He's become a good player on special teams for the Vikings, but the selection of Kobe King could end up costing him a roster spot.
CB Dwight McGlothern
The Vikings have made a lot of investments at the cornerback position, but they haven't come in the form of high level assets since 2022. They continue to make selections in the middle rounds and in undrafted free agency.
One of those is McGlothern, who was a top 200 player on the consensus board in the 2024 NFL Draft. He was on the roster all season last year, but didn't see many snaps. In fact, he was mostly a healthy scratch. This is the year for him to take a step forward, as the defensive backfield isn't exactly the strongest in terms of depth.
