After the Kansas City Chiefs lost to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX, tight end Travis Kelce took responsibility for his part in the defeat.
Kelce, known for making big plays when Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and Co. need him most, recorded four receptions for 39 yards during the Chiefs’ 40-22 loss to the Eagles.
“I don’t think it was my best outing,” he said during the March 5 episode of his “New Heights” podcast. “I think I let my guys down in a lot more moments than I helped them, especially if you look at my track record and how I’ve been in years past.”
Speaking to reporters during mandatory minicamp on Tuesday, June 18, Kelce reiterated that statement. While a historic three-peat is no longer in play, the 35-year-old All-Pro is more motivated than ever. “I didn’t feel like [Super Bowl LIX] was my last game,” he said. “I feel like I have a lot more to prove, and it’s so much more fun coming into the building.”
“Last year, I think I failed, especially in that last game, and being a leader and being the one that can step up and make plays.” As for his goal this season, it’s getting another ring. And to that, he’s “setting the bar even higher this year than I have in the past.”
Travis Kelce Made It Clear He Did Not Lose 25 Pounds Since the Super Bowl

While Kelce spent the bulk of the offseason out of the spotlight with his girlfriend, Taylor Swift, he’s also been dedicated to staying in shape.
The 10-time Pro Bowler’s physical appearance at Amazon MGM Studios Upfronts turned heads on May 12, especially after a Chiefs fan account claimed he told reporters about a 25-pound weight loss. The rumor spread on social media despite the All-Pro tight end not appearing wildly out of shape at the Superdome in February.
Even ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported his supposed weight loss during “SportsCenter” last week.
“First of all, I never said that,” Kelce said on Tuesday. “Don’t believe everything you read on the Internet.”

“I’m down some weight from the end of the season last year. This year, I got some time to really focus on some form running. Certainly feeling good, and it’ll pay off.”
The Chiefs list him at 6-foot-5, 250 pounds.
Chiefs TE Travis Kelce Hasn’t Ruled Out Playing in 2026
While this could be Kelce’s 13th and final season in the NFL, the veteran is taking things one day at a time. “I got the one-year on this contract,” he said. “I know that. We’ll try and figure out something for next year. The Chiefs organization knows how much I love them. I can’t see myself ever playing anywhere else.
“So, we’ll deal with that down the road when the time is right. Right now, I’m focusing on winning a championship this year.”
Kelce only briefly contemplated retirement this past offseason. “I love football, I don’t think I really thought about it that much. I love coming into work every single day.”
