Travis Kelce Gets Pressed on Big Decision By NFL Analyst

One NFL analyst is posing a question about Travis Kelce and his future with the Kansas City Chiefs and beyond.

Let the countdown to the new season begin. Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs are gearing up for another season, and even though it’s still a few months away, the anticipation couldn’t be building more steadily.

Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs

Kelce has been one of the most successful players in Kansas City Chiefs history. He’s a ten-time Pro Bowler and seven-time All-Pro, and that only beings to tell his story. He has also been with the Chiefs for his entire career, starting in 2013, so he’s one of the few NFL players to really stay with his original franchise.

Early in the offseason, Kelce made it clear that he would be coming back for at least one final year with the Chiefs. But, he’s 35 years old and will turn 36 in October, so he could retire at any point after this season. Not many NFL players decide to play into their 40s, after all. Now, one NFL analyst is posing a question about Kelce and his future.

Retirement ‘Feels Entirely Possible’ for Chiefs TE Travis Kelce

In a June 24 feature for CBS Sports, Tyler Sullivan names 10 NFL players who he thinks could be entering their final year. In the piece, he talks about Aaron Rodgers already saying this will likely be his final year, adding, “While our collective jaws got nowhere near close to the floor upon hearing this news from Rodgers, he may not be the only one looking at the 2025 season as his final go around, and some who do decide to call it a career after this year could surprise us.”

The first name that pops up is Kelce, with Sullivan stating that he “seemed to seriously consider walking away after last season in the aftermath of Kansas City’s loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX” but “decided to come back for what will be the 35-year-old’s 13th season in the league. ”

“Beyond this season, however, is a major question,” he adds. “Kelce isn’t even under contract after 2025, but did recently seem to hint his intentions to play beyond this year, saying, ‘We’ll try and figure out something for next year.'”

He adds, “Still, if the Chiefs get back to the Super Bowl and hoist yet another Lombardi Trophy, that could be the stage for Kelce to call it a career. Even without a championship in 2025, it feels entirely possible this is it for the all-time tight end.”

In the end, he predicts Kelce will retire after this season.

Travis Kelce on the Future

In an appearance on the “Bussin with the Boys” show on Tuesday, July 1, Kelce was asked about retirement and if the upcoming season will mark his last in the NFL. “It’s the last one on the contract,” he said.

Kelce added, “I’m focused on this one. I don’t know what next year is going to feel like. I don’t know what I’m going to feel like in March or April next year when I make that decision.”

He also talked about his girlfriend, Taylor Swift, and insisted that they don’t seek out attention, explaining, “we’re just enjoying life and having fun going to hockey games. Kind of introducing her to some more of the sports world.”
