Patrick Mahomes’ former number one receiver has run into troubled waters with the Miami Dolphins. There’s a way out.
Tyreek Hill’s offseason has been filled with peaks and valleys. The offseason started with a valley, slowly built back up to sea level, and appears to have taken another dip.
It all started when Tyreek Hill declared he was “out” after the Week 18 loss to the New York Jets. The Miami Dolphins receiver, however, didn’t keep that tone for long. He went on to publicly apologize for his comments and also went on to post an image of himself in a Dolphins uniform on social media, expressing his desire to get back on the field.
Predictably, many pundits slammed Hill for his early offseason antics. Others warned Hill about the damage they could cause. Since then, however, the heat has quieted down.
That said, not long after Hill let the heat die down, he managed to catch the attention of the zeitgeist once again, posting peace signs on Twitter/X. One former Chiefs wide receiver noticed what was going on.

Dwayne Bowe on Tyreek Hill
Taking to Twitter/X on April 1, former Chiefs wide receiver Dwayne Bowe sent a short message to the wide receiver, but one that spoke volumes.
“Say Cheetah it’s time 2 win again,” he posted.
Bowe’s message was two-fold. Not only did he encourage Hill to continue to claw his way out of the Miami Dolphins, but his status as a former household name in Kansas City also suggested that Hill rejoin his former team.
Bowe caught 15 touchdowns in 2010, leading the NFL. As such, his message might hit Hill harder than others.
How Tyreek Hill could join the Chiefs
Of course, the path to joining the Kansas City Chiefs might be as difficult as catching a touchdown over the top in the NFL. The Dolphins hold all the cards as they have Hill under contract through the 2026 season. However, if he struggles in 2025, the team could cut ties after the season and receive a financial benefit for doing so.
That said, with the end of his contract potentially just a season away anyway, Hill has a few options. The first option would be to simply ask for a release a la Odell Beckham Jr., who joined the Los Angeles Rams in the middle of the 2021 season.
He also could ask for a trade, but if the Dolphins elect to trade him to a non-Chiefs destination (likely), he would be out of luck. The last option that is technically on the table but fraught with questions would be to purposefully tank the first few games of the season so the Dolphins would cut him before the trade deadline, incurring lots of dead cap for Hill.
Of course, if he takes that route, the Chiefs would have a weaker reason to sign him with every “dropped” pass.
