Lerone Murphy explains why Mike Tyson has always been his inspiration ahead of UFC 319

Lerone Murphy, the undefeated UFC featherweight, is gearing up for a critical fight on Saturday night against Aaron Pico, who has been making waves after his move from Bellator-PFL. While Murphy's undefeated record speaks volumes, this fight won’t be easy, and he's determined to prove that he belongs in the championship picture.

Murphy, though not known for flashy stoppages, believes that his grinding style and consistent victories will ultimately earn him a shot at the title. But beyond his skills in the cage, Murphy recently revealed the fighter who has had the biggest influence on him: Mike Tyson.

In a candid interview with Card Player, Murphy shared why Tyson has always been an inspiration. “Mike Tyson is my inspiration,” he said. “I believe he had a similar upbringing to mine, facing many of the same challenges. He turned his life around, got into fighting early, and just smashed it while staying true to himself. I’ve read his book and watched his podcasts. His mindset is crazy, and I relate to it the most when it comes to combat sports.”

As Murphy continues to rise through the ranks, his admiration for Tyson's resilience and determination is clear, and with his eyes set on the title, it's only a matter of time before his own legacy is written in UFC history
