Undrafted DB Named Eagles Most Underrated Player

The Philadelphia Eagles' defense arguably the best defense in the NFL this past season, and it was one of the key factors in them eventually hoisting the Lombardi Trophy.

In a recent article by PFF's Jonathon Macri, he outlines who he thinks is every team's most underrated player. For the reigning Super Bowl champions, he thinks that player is safety Reed Blankenship, who played a big role in the team's defense in 2024.

Undrafted DB Named Eagles Most Underrated Player

"On a Super Bowl-winning roster, there will always be some unsung heroes whose contributions might get overlooked, and Blankenship stands out," Macri writes. "As a former undrafted free agent, Blankenship has assumed a locked-in starter over the past two seasons and delivered an 87.2 PFF coverage grade, which ranks eighth among 129 qualifying safeties since 2022."

Blankenship went undrafted out of Middle Tennessee State University in the 2022 NFL Draft, and the Eagles decided to sign him following the conclusion of the selection process..

And they should be very glad that they did.

The 26-year-old safety finished the 2024 season with a very solid 78 total tackles. He was also able to show his ability to cover the pass with four interceptions and six pass deflections. He is one of the key pieces in an Eagles secondary who allowed the last passing yards in the league.

The Eagles are absolutely the frontrunners going into 2025, as they will be defending the Lombardi. Blankenship and the rest of the team's defense will be looking to make them a very tough team to beat.
