Updated NFL power rankings prove Chargers are finally ready to rival Chiefs

It’s been a rough stretch for the Los Angeles Chargers when it comes to facing the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chargers haven’t beaten Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs since September 26th, 2021, where a late Mike Williams touchdown in the final minute sealed the deal for a Chargers win. Since then, the Chiefs have taken care of the business against the Chargers in every meeting. It’s actually quite embarrassing.

However, in only one of those games, the Chargers have only lost by more than a touchdown. The rest have been one-score games. So all in all, the Chargers know how to put up a fight against the Chiefs, it’s just a matter of making one more better play. You could make the argument that it’s like that with every other team that plays the Chiefs.

Last season showed that the Chargers are so close to creating a little bit of a rivalry with the Chiefs. They lost both meetings by a combined nine points…and now with Jim Harbaugh going into his second season with continuity with the roster and the organization, Harbaugh could be on his way to challenging Andy Reid and the Chiefs.

Lou Scataglia from NFL Spin Zone recently released NFL power rankings for all 32 teams heading into the 2025 NFL Draft. Scataglia has the Chargers breaking the top ten, at No. 10 and only four spots behind the Chiefs who are at No. 6.

It really does all come down to the draft to see if we can officially say that the Chargers are going to be the biggest threats to the Chiefs for the AFC West. Kansas City hasn’t exactly done a lot this free agency period to show that they will once again win the division. They have won it for the past nine seasons. Enough is enough.

It’s time for Joe Hortiz and Jim Harbaugh to still keep attacking the free agent market and then have a phenomenal draft. If the Chargers manage to come out of the draft as big time winners, then maybe, just maybe we will see the Chiefs get dethroned in 2025 as AFC West champs.
