During Season 33, Dancing with the Stars pro Val Chmerkovskiy danced with Real Housewives of Atlanta peach, Phaedra Parks. The duo placed eighth in the competition. While Val is an athlete in his prime, he wasn’t prepared for the health emergency that made his most recent flight a painful experience.
According to Page Six, Val shared the news via his Instagram Story that he passed a kidney stone while on a flight. Yikes! “Passing a kidney stone on my flight home wasn’t part of my plans, but here we are,” Val wrote. “Baby boy was a cute little bastard, about the size of a pea, and has his papa’s eyes.” Plus, Val was generous enough to share a photo of it via his Story. Eww!
Val’s medical saga began when he landed in Spain. After experiencing a “little side/back pain,” it eventually worsened. The dancer experienced “pain throughout the night,” which felt like “throbbing and poking.” He continued, “I can’t decide if I gotta [go to the bathroom] or it’s something else, but my side and back are now KILLING ME.” Finally, he decided to head to the hospital because he “didn’t know what to do” about the now “excruciating pain.”

Next, Val gave us a breakdown of his hospital experience. “Took some tests. Found blood in my pea [sic]. Told me I have a urinary infection, most likely caused by a kidney stone,” he wrote. “Antibiotics, some painkiller.” Val felt great the next day.
However, during his flight home, Val had an unwelcome surprise. “Boom, felt a little something somewhere sacred” and hit up the bathroom, where he met “the little guy.” In conclusion, Val vowed never to eat “sweets or ultra-fried/greasy foods again.” Thankfully, Val felt well enough to attend the Thunderbolts movie premiere the next day with his wife, Jenna Johnson. The couple shares one son, Rome.
We still have no word as to whether Val will be hitting the ballroom for Season 34, but he seems to still be invested in the show. Meanwhile, you can see him on Hulu’s reality competition series, Got To Get Out.
