Was Rust A Factor For Chiefs' Carson Wentz In Denver Demolition?

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Carson Wentz got his first start of the season in the 38-0 loss to the Denver Broncos, and he left a lot to be desired.

Was Rust A Factor For Chiefs' Carson Wentz In Denver Demolition?

Now, we aren't going to pile on a quarterback who was seeing first-team snaps in a real NFL game for the first time in over a year. Also, we have to factor in that a host of starters were out and that Kansas City likely was playing a very vanilla brand of offensive football.

So we add all of that up, and the Chiefs, who were shut out, likely don't care too much about the final score, more so about how their young players fared and who got through the game unscathed.

For Wentz, was rust an issue, given it was his first start in over a year?

"I don't like to make an excuse about anything," Wentz said. "I missed some throws did some things, want some plays back, I think we all do in some capacity. I got to play better, and it was unfortunate we didn't sustain a couple drives early, and all of a sudden, we're in the second half. So it was just a weird flow of the game, all those things, but I got to be better."

In truth, it likely did play some part in the way the offense operated, but of course, Wentz won't use that as an excuse. He wanted to play well, and while he wasn't bad, he wasn't great either.

Going 10 for 17 with just 98 yards and converting just one third down won't exactly instill confidence that if Mahomes goes down that Carson can take over and keep the ship afloat.

But factor in what Wentz was dealing with against Denver, and we can likely take this result with a grain of salt. Which is what the Chiefs will do as playoffs now come into view.
