Madison Errichiello is shedding more light on what happened with Alex Brown following their time on Love Is Blind.
The season 8 stars formed a strong connection in the pods and even became boyfriend and girlfriend briefly, before calling it quits right as an engagement was on the horizon. Madison, 28, ultimately ended things after Alex, 29, refused to speak poorly about her other pod connection, Mason Horacek, despite him saying the same things to her and Meg Fink.
Describing it to PEOPLE earlier this month, Madison said Alex "made me feel so invalidated" and his constant upbeat personality "got to a point where it was almost this toxic positivity, and that's something that I just don't want in my circle of people."
After going their separate ways, it was revealed at the cast gathering in episode 11, which dropped on Feb. 28, that Madison and Alex briefly reconnected after the show. Now, Madison is setting the record straight about what went down in an interview with PEOPLE.
"I come out of the pods and the first message I get on my phone is from Alex, and I think he had figured out what I looked like ... Because it was on Instagram and he was like, 'Oh my f---ing God.' And I was like, 'Yeah. Regretting it now, aren't you?'" she jokes. "No, I'm kidding. But he was like, 'I really want to meet up with you at the airport.' And I was like, 'Did we not just break up? That was pretty emotional for me. I don't know, maybe we should take some time.'"
Despite wanting some space, Madison says she agreed to meet up with Alex. But when they got to the airport, "it was pretty clear to me that he was not the same person that I was speaking to in the pods," she recalls. "That was very obvious."
Noting that she had been added to a group chat with the other season 8 women, Madison says her costars started to ask what Alex was saying because "we were still very intrigued by them."
"I ask Alex — because I get the sense that he was not really very honest in the pods — and I ask him, I'm like, 'What did you really think about Mason?' And he's like, 'Oh, he's a massive weirdo. He's super weird.' I was like, 'But you were just defending him. That's so bizarre to me,'" she recalls.
Today, however, Alex claims "he never said that," according to Madison. This point of contention was brought up in episode 11 when she returned for the cast gathering and revealed what had happened to her costars, calling Alex "a huge liar."
Doubling down on her comments, Madison tells PEOPLE: "He did [say that]. He loves to lie."
Though Alex declined to comment further when reached by PEOPLE, he did say in his own interview earlier this month that he and Madison "definitely continued to talk after the pods."
"I think pretty quickly we just realized that we were on different pages once again, and we wanted to go our separate ways, and that's totally fine," he says. "I think that was what was best for both of us, is to just cut ties and go our separate directions. Again, I have nothing but respect for her, I hope she's doing well, but yeah, I think it was best for both of us to stop communication."
While Madison has her own feelings about Alex's alleged actions, she agrees that they were never meant to be.
"I think there were definitely hesitations on both parties," she says. "I think it was the day before we broke up and we both had said to each other, I was like, 'I'm not ready to say I love you. That feels like a really strong thing to say right now.' And a lot of people in the pods had been saying that back and forth to each other, and so I was like, 'I don't know. Am I behind on these feelings?'"
"We don't end up together, and so I think that was honestly probably for the best," she admits.
