Buccaneers fans were very satisfied with the ass-kicking of the Saints by the Chiefs on Monday Night Football. Unfortunately for the Saints quarterback Derek Carr sustained an oblique injury and was knocked out of a game.
Now it seems like he won’t be playing Tampa on Sunday for a pivotal division match-up. I found it curious they put Jake Haener in instead of Spencer Rattler, but I guess Haener knows the offense better at this point.
I do actually think Rattler could be making his debut against the Bucs. He is the third string, but I think that Rattler has way more potential than Haener, so there’s the possibility Rattler gets the nod. Rattler was a fifth round pick, but at one point was a graded first round talent.
There is also the possibility Carr just toughs it out and plays on Sunday. He played through a lot of injuries last year and especially against Tampa. If he does play, he will be limited in what he can do. Why would they play him if he is so severely limited? Because Dennis Allen. Needless to say, Carr playing means that the secondary shouldn’t look like swiss cheese again. Well, in theory.
We of course will know better what the Saints will be dealing with come Sunday. Their injury report is almost as bad as Tampa Bay’s. They missed The Saints are already reeling when it comes to injuries. Starting center Erik McCoy and back-up Shane Lemieux missed the Chief’s game. Guard Cesar Ruiz missed Monday night as well and could miss Sunday’s game against the Bucs. Tight end Taysom Hill also missed the game in Kansas City due to injury. Defensive ends Payton Turner and Tanoh Kpassagno did not play, LBs Willie Gay and Peter Werner missed the game, and the starting safety Will Harris pulled his hamstring Monday. That is a lot of guys they are hoping to come back on short notice. It’ll be curious to see what they do, but it is not looking good so far for the Saints between this and their recent slide.
