Why ‘Love Is Blind’ Can’t Find Nice Guys Anymore

What started off as a boring Love Is Blind season, quickly became a prime example of one of the biggest issues in the dating scene currently. Season 8 contained the largest group of singles to appear on the show. In the season premiere, fans were introduced to 32 singles, ranging from 26 to 43 years of age, and all from the Minneapolis, Minnesota area. There were more pod episodes than in previous seasons. The extra episodes kept viewers in the dark up until the mid-season return, adding to the slow-paced feel.

For the most part, though, most couples seemed promising by the mid-season finale. However, once the series returned, the boring season quickly picked up the pace as the men started showcasing their true colors and life outside the pods proved to be more tumultuous than ever. Interestingly, it's no coincidence that the interest in “nice,” suitable males in the show has dwindled and, according to the production team, there might be a good reason for the downfall of quality men on the series.

'Love Is Blind' Season 8 Men Didn't Seem Involved for the Right Reasons

What started as a boring season quickly took some drastic turns after the second installment. On paper and in the pods, most of the men seemed perfect. Of course, there was the occasional red flag, such as Ben Mezzenga's dismissive attitude about Sara Carton's political beliefs or Dave Bettenburg's self-proclamation of dating women for the wrong reasons. There was also a little bit of trauma dumping that could have easily been misconstrued as an attempt to be vulnerable.

However, so many more revelations came to light in the second installment and, most specifically, the reunion. Most of the men, except for Daniel Hastings, were caught lying and trying to manipulate the situation in their favor. Some women went as far as to claim that the season 8 men were downright sketchy. It seemed like the men were far more interested in getting five minutes of fame than making genuine connections.

'Love Is Blind' Producers Claim It's "Hard to Find Nice Men"

There's no denying that there seems to be fewer couples saying “I do” at the altar and more stars using the show's credibility for their own benefit. However, this seems to be an issue that even the production crew is aware of. According to Ally Simpson, an executive producer, it's been hard for Love Is Blind to find “nice men” and nice guys are the ones who see the most benefits on the show. Ally believes that social media might play a role and might “scare off” the suitors the production team is most interested in. From sharing their personal lives to potential harassment on social media, this could be a valid concern.

Similarly to the concerns of Dave and his sister, men may not want to be portrayed in a negative light, even unseemingly, and potentially cause issues within their home lives. While social media and the rumors that can arise from the platforms are valid concerns, the production crew is putting plans into action to help make contestants feel more at ease. For instance, they have former stars call potential candidates to explain the process and experience from their point of view. Overall, the production crew hopes to have more "nice" guys appear on the show since they have the most authentic luck and genuine connections on the show.

In the end, Season 8 had a major shift. In the past, there were men on the show for the wrong reasons and were caught in a web of their own lies. However, the Season 8 men seemed to be on another level. They lied, gaslighted, love bombed, trauma dumped, and were downright sketchy and refused to be held accountable unless hard core proof was in their faces. Season 8 was disheartening to watch as only one couple successfully got married, but hopefully Love Is Blind Season 9 will bring forth some nice guys of the same caliber as Cameron Hamilton.
