Mia Thornton has left the Real Housewives of Potomac building. And fans don’t seem that upset about her departure. Mia has spent the last four seasons stirring the pot and blowing up her costars’ storylines. I contrast that she has tried to keep most of her life under wraps. That is, until Season 9 revealed she was divorcing her husband and in love with her high school boyfriend. But just as she was getting interesting, she decided to leave her cherry blossom behind. Let’s just hope she isn’t holding out for a Real Housewives of Atlanta peach.
Mia Thornton is leaving RHOP after moving to Atlanta
Evidently, you need three separate Instagram posts with full makeup and theme to let fans know you’re leaving a Bravo franchise. At least that is what Mia deemed worthy of her announcement. She held a newspaper as her caption read, “With every new season comes a new beginning, and I have some news to share. My family and I have made the decision to relocate to Atlanta, and with that, I will not be returning to The Real Housewives of Potomac next season.” Mia seemed content with her decision, adding, “The past four seasons have been an unforgettable journey, one filled with growth, lessons, and so many incredible memories.”
Mia made sure to “thank Truly Original, Bravo, NBCUniversal, and Andy Cohen for believing in me and giving me the space to share my story. To my castmates: thank you for the laughs, the lessons, and the unforgettable moments. And to the amazing fans, your love and support has meant everything to me. I’ll always carry that with me.” The businesswoman signed off by saying, “This next chapter is already full of exciting opportunities, and I can’t wait to take you all along for the ride. Big things are coming…” She then added, “I don’t just make headlines — I make History. Atlanta, brace yourself. The empire has expanded.”

Mia Thornton wasn’t a fan favorite on RHOP
While I appreciated what Mia tried to do on Real Housewives of Potomac, her character didn’t resonate with everyone. In my opinion, Mia tried to hold her group of friends accountable, but she rarely did the same for herself. But this is what made her have great TV moments. She often tried to be the bone collector of the franchise, but it didn’t always pan out. Bravo fans often felt Mia was messy and didn’t fit in with her wealthier costars in the 20854 zip code. Viewers felt she was too crass for the show and haven’t let her live down the infamous quote, “Does a frog have a watertight asshole?” I mean, yeah, that was gross, Mia.
As many fans like to claim, she’s great for VH1 but bad for Bravo. RHOP Season 9 did Mia no favors. Viewers were disgusted with her alleged lies and upset that she tried to use her children as fodder. She also came across as exploiting Gordon Thornton’s mental health struggles. While I beleive Mia was trying to be progressive her open discussions of working in strip clubs, vaginal plastic surgery, and sleeping with her friends really turned fans off of her and the franchise.
RHOA has already been through a recent soft reboot
Now, if Mia hoped to jump ship to the Real Housewives of Atlanta, I’m not so sure she is going to get her wish. The ATL franchise has just undergone a facelift. Bravo did a whole out with the old and in with the new. With Porsha Williams leading the cast of newbies, I’m not sure Mia would be worth the risk of a shake-up. Now, with that being said, I believe Brit Eady is on thin ice after his gun comments. But I’m still not convinced that Mia would fit in with this group of women.
Porsha is the queen bee. There is no mistake there. And I worry Mia would try her very best to grab that title. It would never happen. And while it might be interesting to watch the inevitable battles, I just don’t see Mia on a Real Housewives franchise anymore. If the former dancer is serious about a new start, I think she should leave reality TV behind and concentrate on moving forward.
The Real Housewives of Atlanta is available to stream on Peacock and Hayu in the UK and Ireland.
