After the Minnesota Wild's season ended, General Manager Bill Guerin said at exit meetings that Iowa Head coach Brett McLean will return for the 2025-26 season as Iowa's head coach despite Iowa not playing well.
McLean has now accepted a job back in the NHL with the Vancouver Canucks as their Assistant Coach. Prior to coaching the Iowa Wild, McLean spent three seasons as an assistant coach for the Wild from 2020 to 2023.
The Wild made the Stanley Cup Playoff in all three seasons and a had 134-63-23 (.661) regular-season record. Which was the sixth-best point percentage in the NHL during that span.
Iowa went 27-37-8 in both the seasons that McLean was the head coach. They finished 30th in the AHL in 2024-25 and 29th in 2023-24.
