As the Minnesota Wild continue their offseason, the front office has been looking to come to terms on a few key players with new contracts. Minnesota remains confident that the core group of the team can contend for a title, and they want to get some of the stars signed early.
One of those players is young star Marco Rossi, who has been dealing with contract problems as he is a restricted free agent. The two sides haven't been able to come to terms yet, especially with the Wild also dealing with a potential extension with Kirill Kaprizov.
But Minnesota recognizes what Rossi brings to the table, and they don't want to lose him. However, it seems that the two sides are still very far apart in terms of negotiations.
According to NHL insider David Pagnotta, there is a large gap in terms of the contract philosophy. Minnesota still wants to bring him back, but the two sides may need to compromise on a new deal.
David Pagnotta: Re Marco Rossi and the Wild: There's so much of a gap in contractual philosophy here between the two sides; they still like what he brings to the table; Guerin's going to continue to look and see what they can come up with - Sekeres and Price

Due to the upcoming extension talks with Kaprizov, the Wild are trying to keep the salary books as open as possible. But this has been heavily impacting the discussions with Rossi.
Rossi was a very crucial piece to the puzzle for the Wild last season, scoring 24 goals and 36 assists. It was a career year for the former first-round draft pick, and it seems that he is looking to get paid what he believes he deserves.
In all likelihood, Rossi will return to the Wild, if only because of his restricted free agency status. Minnesota also can't afford to lose a player like Rossi, especially at such a young age.
The two sides will continue to talk about a new deal, but it benefits the Wild to get this done sooner rather than later. Having Rossi securely in the mix should help talks with Kaprizov as well.
