Wild send pending RFA Chisholm to Capitals for Priskie, pick swap

Minnesota moved pending restricted free agent defenseman Declan Chisholm to the Capitals in exchange for defenseman Chase Priskie.

In addition to the swap of players, the Wild also got an upgrade on one of their later draft picks.

Washington sent the 123rd pick their way in exchange for the 180th overall pick.

Minnesota used the trade-up to add Canadian center Carter Klippenstein to their pool of prospects.

Chisholm, who has spent time both with the Wild and with the Winnipeg Jets, skated in 66 games for Minnesota this past season, recording two goals and 10 assists for 12 points.

That was preceded by an effort of 8 points in 29 games in the 2023-2024 campaign.

Chisholm was a fifth round pick of the Winnipeg Jets in the 2018 NHL entry draft, and the Wild got him via waiver claim in January of 2024.

Priskie has been a key contributor to two successful years for the Capitals’ AHL affiliate Hershey Bears.

In 2024-2025, he put up 34 points in 69 regular season games followed by a 14-point effort over 20 playoff games as he helped lead the Bears to the Calder Cup championship.

Priskie has also spent time in the Florida Panthers organization. He signed out of Quinnipiac University with the Carolina Hurricanes, but was sent to Florida in a deal for Vincent Trocheck.

The 29-year-old has played four career NHL games without recording a point.

Washington and Chisholm will look to work out a new contract, as the team’s new acquisition should provide the team with a much-needed upgrade to its NHL-level defensive depth.

The Capitals finished the season as the number one team in the Eastern Conference, but fell in five games to Carolina in the second round.

Washington has about $9.3 million in cap space, according to PuckPedia.
